Afan Erioed 2 now closed
Our Afan Erioed 2 project has now drawn to a close. It’s been a great project, with some wonderful achievements!
On 22nd and 23rd November 2025, we staged three spectacular performances: a culmination of the ‘Chwedlau / Legends’ creative arts workshops. The performances – one on Saturday evening and two on Sunday, in the New Plaza in Port Talbot, saw full houses, with Members of Neath Port Talbot Council coming along to support it.
The shows brought together the work the community had produced in the workshops which preceded it; they focused on the myths and legends of the Afan Valley, as found in two lovely children’s books by Sally Roberts Jones. They brought together adults and young people, a dance group of children, and a host of other talented local people, storytelling, composing and playing music, and writing scripts. Given that the workshops only began in September, it was fantastic that so many participants were both capable and willing to perform their creative works within only a couple of months!
After the performance on Saturday evening there was a terrific Welsh music session in the Plaza café/bar, with some of the best traditional musicians in Wales playing and dancing.
A massive congratulations to all who participated in the performances, showcasing talent, creativity, and the wonderful heritage of our local area! Also, a big thank you to all those who came to support the performances!
