Step into the Past: Guided Walks

The Secrets of Mynydd Dinas

Join Geoff, an ecologist, and Tim, a local historian, for a walk around the mountain paths. They will reveal the Mountain’s secrets as you wander its slopes.

Our current programme of work, Afan Erioed 2, continues Calon Afan’s mission to discover and celebrate the hidden heritage of Port Talbot and the Afan Valley. In Autumn 2025 we revealed the hidden historical facts, colourful characters and amazing stories, all explored through two projects: ‘Legends’, and ‘Mynydd Dinas’.

In ‘Legends’ the myths and legends of the area inspired arts workshops in drama, dance, music, storytelling and creative writing, all led by our professional practitioners. There were public performances in the Plaza on 22nd and 23rd of November to celebrate the wonderful work we all produced during the workshops.

Guided walks and metal detecting workshops on Mynydd Dinas, again led by our experienced and expert staff, revealed some of the history and wildlife secrets of our wonderful local mountain.

The arts workshops, most of which are open for anyone to join, young or old, are all held in town centre venues, easily accessed. Activities on the Mountain, suitable for families, will be held within walking distance of a parking spot, and lifts can be arranged for those without transport.

Disabled access to all of these activities can be arranged according to requirements.
